Russia - Sugar exports to reach up to 340,000 t in 2022-23

29 июня 2023 года

Russia's sugar exports may increase by 6% to 330,000-340,000 metric tons in the current 2022 - 23 (August - July) season, said Evgeny Ivanov from the Institute for Agricultural Market Studies (IKAR).

The main receivers were Kazakhstan and other countries of the former Soviet Union. There were deliveries to Belarus, Moldova, Afghanistan, Iran, Mongolia and North Korea earlier in the season. However, the increase in exports is limited by logistical difficulties, including the high cost of maritime container exports and the insufficient capacity of ports in the South and the Baltic.

While Russia has been producing more sugar than it consumes since the 2016 - 17 season, small amounts of sugar continue to be imported, mainly from Belarus.
