IKAR in Mass MediaRussia March Sugar Imports May Jump to 150,000 Tons, IKAR Says17 февраля 2010 года By Maria Kolesnikova Feb. 16 (Bloomberg) -- Russian raw-sugar imports may rise to at least 150,000 metric tons in March, the Institute for Agricultural Market Studies said. Imports this month of the sweetener are forecast to reach 23,500 tons, said Evgeny Ivanov, a sugar analyst at the institute, also known as IKAR. That compares with “virtually zero” in 2009’s first two months, when shipments stalled because of a seasonal import duty, he said. Some 348,655 tons of raw, or unrefined, sugar is awaiting shipment to Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States in March, according to IKAR data. “Almost all of this sugar may be redirected to CIS, Middle East and the Mediterranean if domestic prices in Russia remain depressed,” Ivanov said by telephone today.
