No shortage of grainstorage capacities expected in Russia - experts

TASS, 04.10.17

Russia will not see a deficit in grainstorage capacities despite the record-breaking harvest outlook, because exports are high and there are enough storages, exports told TASS on Monday.

MOSCOW, October 2. /TASS/. Russia will not see a deficit in grainstorage capacities despite the record-breaking harvest outlook, because exports are high and there are enough storages, exports told TASS on Monday.

Russia can harvest over 127 mln tonnes of grain as of 201 year-end and break the Soviet era record, Minister of Agriculture Alexander Tkachev said last Thursday.

"As far as storages are concerned across the regions, capacities are enough, considering not merely elevators but also the record-breaking export dynamics. We set export records in August and in September," strategic marketing director of Rusagrotrans company Igor Pavensky said. 4.8 mln tonnes of grain were exported in August and 5.2 mln tonnes in September, he noted. "We estimate 12.7 mln tonnes were exported in total in July - September," the expert said.

No shortage of capacities is also predicted by chief executive of the Institute for Agricultural Market Studies Dmitry Rylko. "The situation with storages is normal. We have good exports. Farmers’ storage are also in place, where a lot of grain can be stored," the expert said.

A risk exists that grain will partly lose quality, Vice President of the Russian Grain Union Alexander Korbut noted. "Storages are a complex matter. The question is what storages are available because their quality is a determining factor for grain. Capacities will probably be enough but losses of quantity and quality may occur in certain cases," the expert said.
