IKAR: the wheat crop in Russia will be a record

agro2b.ru, 02.08.17

Russia this year can collect a record harvest of wheat from 74 to 77 million tonnes forecast in IKAR

The Russian wheat harvest will be a record, predicts CEO of the Institute for agricultural market studies (IKAR) Dmitry Rylko. "The results of the field survey in June-July showed good potential, as a result, we increased the forecast of the harvest to 74 to 77 million tonnes and 72-75 million tonnes previously forecast", — said Rylko.

Grain exports in the current agricultural year (July 2017-June 2018) Dmitry Rylko has increased by 0.5 million tons to 29.5-31.5 million tons.

According to him, will be a record wheat harvest in the South. "In the Central regions during the field survey, we have seen close to record potential, which began to be confirmed in the course of harvesting," he said. "Overall, I think wheat harvest this year will end with a new record", — said Dmitry Rylko, Recalling that in 2016 the Russian Federation collected 73.3 million tons of wheat against the 61.8 million tonnes in 2015.

The head of IKAR also said that the forecast for the barley harvest increased to nearly 18 million tons to 17 million tons in the previous estimate. Barley crop last year amounted to 17.99 million tonnes compared to 17.5 million tons a year earlier.

As said Dmitry Rylko, IKAR recalculate the forecast for gross grain harvest, but after will be clear with corn. "In the South it is cultivated in very good condition, but there is a forecast that the temperature may rise to 42 degrees. Will it or not and how long it will last in this heat is unknown, but it is alarming, he said. — In the Central regions the crops are behind in the growing season due to cool weather in the spring and summer". In 2016, the Russian Federation has collected 15.3 million tonnes of maize against 13.2 million tons in 2015.
