Russia Exported 75,000 Tons of Sugar From August, Ikar Says

23 декабря 2011 года

Nov. 22 (Bloomberg) -- Russia exported about 75,000 metric tons of sugar from the start of the season on Aug. 1 through the middle of this month, the Institute for Agricultural Market Studies said today on its website.

The country shipped 153,000 tons of molasses and about 252,000 tons of granulated beet pulp, a record for the period, said the institute, known as Ikar. The season runs through July 31.

Export destinations included former Soviet republics, Afghanistan and Mongolia, as well as new markets including Syria and Montenegro. Sugar shipments also went to Belize, Germany, Israel, India, Canada, China, North Korea, Cuba, Mexico, Norway, Panama, the U.S., Thailand and Japan, Ikar said.

Transportation over long distances was encouraged by low prices on the domestic market, which declined for a fifth month, Ikar said. Producers' sugar prices in Russia fell to about 19,000 rubles ($590) a ton as of yesterday, down from about 31,000 rubles on July 18, according to Ikar data.
