Russia grain prices stable with weak market activity

07 декабря 2011 года

MOSCOW, Dec 5 (Reuters) - Russian grain prices were little changed last week with unusually weak market activity on both supply and demand side, although exports continued at a record pace, analysts said on Monday.

Wheat FOB market prices eased slightly by up to $2 per tonne to $237 per tonne for cereal with 11.5 percent protein content, and to $245 per tonne for wheat with 12.5 percent protein content, the Institute for Agricultural Market Studies (IKAR) said in a weekly note.

It said despite the quiet market, grain exports were preliminarily estimated at a record 14.6 million tonnes between July 1 and Nov. 26, including 12.4 million tonnes of wheat.

Average domestic EXW prices strengthened slightly, mainly in the centre and in the Volga region, although in the exporting regions in the south they were relatively stable, SovEcon agricultural analysts said.

Prices for third-grade milling wheat rose to 5,875 roubles ($190) per tonne, gaining 50 roubles, fourth-grade wheat gained 25 roubles, rising to 5,700 roubles per tonne, while feed was unchanged at 5,175 roubles per tonne, it said.

SovEcon said in the Urals and in Siberia prices were stable after the first government intervention tender was held on Nov.29.

Maize was the only cereal that declined in price last week. It fell by 50 roubles to 5,150 roubles per tonne in North Caucasus on high new crop supply.

Sunseed EXW prices firmed last week to 9,775 roubles per tonne, gaining some 50 roubles on the previous week, SovEcon said.

Traders reported there had been proposals from exporters to buy sunseeds at 11,000-11,500 roubles per tonne including delivery to ports (CPT), it said.

SovEcon said domestic sunoil prices rose by 150 roubles to 33,575 roubles per tonne, while export prices declined by $20-$30 to around $1,100 per tonne FOB Black Sea.

IKAR said, in dollar terms, domestic sunseed prices rose to $313 per tonne from $295. It said the price of sunoil of 1,084 was little changed.

SovEcon expects the rise of both sunseeds and sunoil prices to be short-lived as world prices are on the decline.

Russian white sugar prices declined after two weeks of increases on weakened demand to $648 and 20,000 roubles per tonne from $668 and 21,000 roubles, IKAR said adding it does not expect a rise in the next two weeks. ($1=30.89 Russian roubles)
