The estimate is based on an "optimistic" scenario, Dmitry Rylko, general director of IKAR, as the Moscow-based institute is known, said in Kiev today. The crop may total 80 million tons under a "moderate" scenario, he said. IKAR estimated the harvest at 84 million tons in February. The wheat harvest will "depend greatly on the situation in Volga area", Rylko said, estimating the crop at between 50 million and 54.9 million tons. Russia may export about 9 million tons of grains in the next marketing year if its harvest reaches 84 million tons and final carryover stocks are 15 million tons as of July 1, Rylko said.
