Russia May Import 520,000 Tons of Sugar This Quarter, Ikar Says

02 марта 2011 года

Feb. 11 (Bloomberg) -- Russian raw-sugar imports may be at least 520,000 metric tons in the first quarter, Yevgeny Ivanov, an analyst at the Institute for Agricultural Market Studies, said.

Russian companies imported about 150,000 tons of sugar in January, and plan to get another 120,000 tons from abroad this month, Ivanov said by phone today from Moscow. At least 250,000 tons of sugar may be delivered to Russia in March after the government lowers the sugar import duty, he said.

Ikar, as the institute is know, estimated Russia’s domestic sugar consumption at 1.08 million tons in the first quarter, down 3.6 percent from 1.1 million tons in the same period of 2010, Ivanov said.
