Russia - Strong sugar export pace to support local prices

27 апреля 2020 года

Russia has been exporting around 150,000mt/month of sugar since December, minus a slowdown in Feb-Mar, which could help deal with the local oversupply and support prices if they remain strong until the end of the season, according to an expert at IKAR.

Rail exports of white sugar in the first 22 days of April reached 84,900mt, along with 7,700mt exported through Black Sea ports and 24,400mt of raw beet sugar exported to Uzbekistan. Moreover, analysts noted that the weak Rouble and unfavourable weather conditions in the Krasnodar region could keep pushing up prices. IKAR added that producers will need to cut output to support prices in the long-run, although Prodimeks confirmed that it had no plans to reduce production this year, even with the coronavirus containment measures.
