Russian Beet-Sugar Forecast Is Lowered 5.4% by IKAR on Drought

July 9 (Bloomberg) -- Russian sugar refining from domestically grown beet will probably reach about 3.97 million metric tons this year, the Institute for Agricultural Market Studies said, lowering its previous forecast by 5.4 percent.

The researcher, also known as IKAR, last month forecast output of as much as 4.2 million tons, compared with 3.2 million tons Russia refined last year, it said in an e-mailed statement today.

Emergencies have been declared in 14 regions along the Volga, in the Urals and central Russia because of heat and drought. The Agriculture Ministry cut its grain-crop forecast this week, citing the worst drought in a decade.
