Pulses: Prairie yellow pea prices fall in wake of Indian tariffs

13 ноября 2017 года

Winnipeg, November 9 (CNS) – Yellow pea prices in Western Canada fell for the second day in a row. After softening by 25 cents in one day earlier this week yellows dropped another 68 cents, according to the latest information from the Prairie Ag Hotwire. Prices are now listed at C$6.04 to C$7.07 a bushel. The fall is tied to India’s decision to impose a 50 percent tax on all pea imports. Canada is one of the largest pea exporters to the country. According to a report on UkrAgroConsult, in the next 10 days, five to six ships loaded with peas are scheduled to arrive at Indian ports. The new duties will apparently be imposed on shipments of peas that haven’t yet passed through customs.

Nebraska is sitting on a near-record dry bean crop. According to the USDA, production is estimated to be 411 million pounds in 2017. The state produces roughly 12 percent of the nation’s 3.5 billion pound crop, according to the Northarvest Bean Growers Association.

Russia exported a record number of lentils this year. According to a report from the Institute for Agricultural Market studies in Russia, more than 35,000 tonnes of lentils were shipped out to foreign countries. Turkey and India were the two largest customers.

Laird X3 lentils fell two cents and now are priced at 23 to 28 cents a pound, according to the Hotwire.

Eston #2 lentils declined by one cent and are listed at 26 to 30 cents per pound.

Bids for navy beans declined by 4 cents to 25 cents a pound.

Kidney beans, both light and dark, also dropped half a cent to 39.5 cents per pound.
