Average root weight rose to 310 grammes from 247 grammes. The industry lobby gave the following data for the test: 4th test '08 4th test '07 3rd test '08 Avg sugar content (pct) 12.1 11.8 10.5 Root weight (grammes) 310 247 227 Beets per hectare 88,000 79,000 88,000 Russia has sown 819,000 hectares with sugar beet this year, down 22.7 percent from last year's acreage. But analysts and the lobby believe the decline in the refining of beet sugar from last year's 3.2 million tonnes will not be as dramatic. The Institute for Agricultural Market Studies (IKAR) expects output this year to decline by 11.7 percent to 2.77 million tonnes and the union forecasts it to be 3.1 million tonnes, as they expect higher yields and sugar content than last year. Sugar beet tests are normally carried
out every 10 days from July 1 to September, with the next text expected
on Aug. 11. Final data on the density of sugar beet plantings will be
obtained during the Aug. 21 test. Source: Reuters | #sugar | Comments: 0 Views: 98
