Russian grains analyst doesn't expect export sanctions over Ukraine troubles

30 июля 2014 года

A Russian grains analyst says he doesn't think that trade sanctions against exporters will be introduced.

One possible response to the current political tensions between Russia and Ukraine is for the United States or the European Union to introduce more trade sanctions on Russia, making exporting difficult.

Dimitri Rylko, the general director of the Institute for Agricultural Market Studies in Russia, says so far there's been no damage done in grain growing areas.

"I would say it has not covered, at least directly, our grain production and trade both in Russia and Ukraine.

"Luckily for our friends, Ukrainians, the two regions where we see tensions and a type of war are not primary grain production regions for Ukraine."
