IKAR in Mass MediaRussia’s Grain Yields in the South Seen by Ikar Up 18% to Date10 июля 2014 года Grain yields in the south of Russia advanced 18 percent this year after the harvest started later than in 2013 due to rainfall and cool temperatures, said Dmitry Rylko, director of market researcher Institute for Agricultural Market Studies, or Ikar. Average yields in the country’s south rose to 3.97 metric tons a hectare (2.47 acres) by yesterday from 3.37 tons a hectare last year, according to the Agriculture Ministry’s website. A shorter winter and the rainfall since May provided conditions that were “close to ideal,” Moscow-based Rylko said by phone today. The weather pushed the start of the harvesting season to June 23 compared with June 13 in 2013. “Last year was drastically different with its super-early start of harvesting.” Russia reaped grain crops on 2.7 million hectares, or 5.9 percent of the total planted area, by yesterday, compared with 4.8 million hectares last year, according to the Agriculture Ministry.
