IKAR in Mass MediaAnalyst sees Russia's 2006 buckwheat, millet output up on yr03 ноября 2006 года MOSCOW, June 1 (Prime-Tass) -- Russia's output of buckwheat and millet is expected to increase this year after declining in 2005, according to a forecast by the independent Institute for Agrarian Market Studies (IKAR). Rice output is expected to remain flat on the year. Millet output is expected to reach 750,000-850,000 tonnes this year due to an increase in the planted area, according to IKAR. Farmers increased the planted area amid increased prices for millet after its output fell 59% on the year in 2005. Declines were also posted in oat and corn output, prompting the prices of these grains to rise. IKAR expects the output of buckwheat to amount to 640,000-650,000 tonnes this year, up from 606,000 tonnes in 2005. Rice output is preliminary estimated to amount to 565,000-575,000 tonnes, according to IKAR, compared with a record-high output of 575,000 tonnes last year, when a 21% annual increase was registered.
