Sept 18 (Interfax) - Russia exported over 5 million tonnes of corn in January-August 2024, having increased the supply by 7% year-on-year, the Russian Agriculture Ministry's Agroexport Center said, citing experts. The top three importers are Iran (47% of total deliveries), Turkey (31%), and Libya (4%). Russia exported 7.3 million tonnes of corn in 2023, which put it in fifth place among the world's leading exporters. The leaders were Brazil (55.9 million tonnes), the United States (46 million tonnes), and Ukraine (26.4 million tonnes). The Federal State Statistics Service estimated Russian areas under corn at 3.991 million hectares in 2024, including 2.624 million hectares under grain corn. Most crops were sown in the Central, Southern and North Caucasus federal districts. Krasnodar Territory and the Tambov and Voronezh regions planted the most corn. According to the Institute for Agricultural Market Studies (IKAR), Russia's corn harvest will drop to 12 million tonnes this year (which is the lowest since 2018), compared to 16.6 million tonnes in 2023.
