IKAR in Mass MediaChina cuts imports of Russian flour 31.6% to $15.4 mln in 7M - Chinese Customs Administration21 августа 2024 года MOSCOW. Aug 21 (Interfax) - China imported wheat- and rye-wheat flour worth $15.4 million in the first seven months this year, down 31.6% from $22.4 million in the same period last year, China's General Customs Administration said. Russia was again the second biggest supplier behind Japan with $16.3 million. China imported flour from 16 countries, compared with 13 in the same period last year. The third largest supplier was France with $6.47 million. Russia is also seeking permission to supply rye flour to China. A Russian government order dated August 15, 2024, published on the official legal information portal, states that a proposal by the Russian Agriculture Ministry, approved by the Russian Foreign Ministry, to hold negotiations on signing a protocol between the Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) and China's General Customs Administration on compliance with inspection and quarantine requirements for rye flour exported from Russia to China was accepted. A similar government order concerns negotiations on signing a protocol on the supply of semolina from Russia. As a rule, signing such agreements means opening the market for Russian products. Russia exported a record 1.1 million tonnes of flour in the 2023/2024 marketing year. The Institute of Agricultural Market Studies (IKAR) said the biggest buyers besides China were Iraq and Afghanistan. IKAR estimates exports will fall to 550,000 tonnes this marketing year.
