IKAR in Mass MediaEU crop monitor ups Russian cereal crop estimates02 октября 2023 года PARIS, Oct 2 (Reuters) - The European Union's crop monitoring service MARS on Monday raised its estimates for Russia's main 2023 cereal crops, citing good crop weather although wet conditions during harvest raised concern about grain quality. In a crop report MARS pegged this year's total wheat production in Russia at 89.7 million metric tons, up from 86.7 million tons forecast in June. That was 8% above the five-year average but down 14% from a record harvest in 2022. The estimate is below those of other forecasters such as agriculture consultancy SovEcon which pegged the crop at 91.6 million tons, while Ikar consultancy projected it at 91.0 million. MARS also raised its estimate for Russia's total barley crop to 21.9 million tons against 20.4 million forecast three months ago, while the grain maize crop was now seen at 17.0 million tons against 15.2 million tons in June. "Adequate weather conditions in most of European Russia sustained a positive yield outlook for winter cereals, albeit it below the record level of 2022," it said in its report. "Wet conditions hampered the harvesting of winter and spring cereals, raising concerns about grain quality," it added. Source: Reuters | #grain | Comments: 0 Views: 10
