Russia - IKAR sees beet sugar output at up to 6.4 million t in 2023-24

IKAR said sugar production in Russia in 2023â€"24 may reach almost 6.4 million tons (after processing of syrup and molasses) against 6.2 million a year earlier. The density of crops as well as the size of the roots and leaves are among the best in recent years.

It said the sugar beet harvest this year so far "very prosperous, at least in two key production regions - the south and the center." As for the Volga region, until recently the situation there was extremely challenging but the rains have returned the situation to normal quite quickly. It is quite possible that an average harvest will be achieved in the region. In general, the density of crops, the size of the roots and leaves are among the best in recent years, IKAR noted.

Russia's area under sugar beet this year amounted to 1.047 million hectares, which is 1.9% more than last year.
