Shipments climbed on a reduction in domestic sugar-beet production caused by unfavorable weather, Yevgeny Ivanov, an analyst at the Moscow-based researcher, also known as IKAR, said today by phone. Russia suffered its worst drought in a half century last year. The country’s sugar output fell to 4.86 million tons last year from 5.11 million tons in 2009, Ivanov said.
