→ IKAR in Mass Media → #2390 IKAR in Mass MediaRussia- Nation to produce record sugar volumes in 2019-20: IKAR23 сентября 2019 года Russia will produce between 6.4-6.7 million mt of sugar in the 2019-20 crop year, setting a record for production, the Institute for Agricultural Market Studies (IKAR) said Friday. "Once again, we are likely to have a record production of beet sugar in our country. Our current estimate is from 6.4 million mt to 6.7 million mt. Taking into account the stocks from last year, this forms a surplus of approximately 1.1-1.5 million mt, depending on domestic consumption and a number of other factors," IKAR director general Dmitry Rylko said. Rylko pointed out that the projected surplus is expected to depress the domestic market. Russia produced a record amount of sugar during the month of August at 546,000 mt versus 379,000 mt a year earlier, according to Rosstat data cited by IKAR. Total sugar production since January 1 increased 3% on the year to 953,000 mt in 2019, the report said. Russia is expected to export 805,000 mt in 2019-20, up from 315,000 mt a year before, while imports are expected to fall to 225,000 mt from 250,000 mt in the previous season. Russian sugar demand is expected to rise to 5.92 million mt from 5.835 million mt. The Russian sugar crop year runs from August to September.
