Moldova- Beet production falls 19.8% on year in 2018

Moldovan farmers harvested 702,600 mt of sugar beets in 2018, down 19.8% from 876,000 mt in 2017, the National Bureau of Statistics of Moldova reported Tuesday.

Agricultural yields for the 2018 season were estimated at 373.3 centners/hectare (37.3 mt/hectare), the data showed.

Moldova is expected to see lower production in 2019, with Eurasian Sugar Association President Andrei Bodin projecting during the CIS Sugar Market Conference on March 22 that Moldovan sugar output will fall to 75,000 mt from 90,000 mt in 2018.

The Moldovan sugar crop year runs from October 1 to September 30.
