IKAR in Mass MediaRussia- Exports fall 36% year on year in 201814 января 2019 года Russia exported 350,000 mt of sugar in 2018, down 195,000 mt or 36% compared with 2017, Soyuzrossahar data showed. Russian sugar exports are expected to continue falling in the near future, according to an analyst. "The Russian sugar market is logistically limited, and our traditional customers can now find cheaper sugar," said Yevgeny Ivanov of the Institute of Agricultural Market Studies. "The sugar markets of Central Asian countries are very competitive. All the CIS countries and the European Union, as well as raw sugar exporters including Brazil, compete there." Exports for the 2018-19 sugar season, which runs from August 1 to July 30, could fall to 140,000 mt from 504,000 mt in the 2017-18 season. "By spring, monthly exports will probably be below 10,000 mt," Ivanov said. The Russian sugar market is expected to come into balance as the record production of past seasons is counterbalanced by reduction this season. Sugar beet production is expected to fall 21% year on year to 41.2 million mt in 2018 from 51.9 million mt in 2017, Rosstat said. Production totaled 51.3 million mt in 2016, it added. Through December 24, 36.8 million mt of beets had been processed, producing 5.6 million mt of sugar, for a yield of 15.15%, according to Ivanov.
