Russia: Country reaches peak sugar production

Russia has reached peak sugar production with every sugar factory in the country now processing beets, according to a report published Thursday by Agroinvestor.

With Russia's 75 sugar factories now in operation, daily sugar production is approaching a record high of 60,000 mt, with no breaks in production thus far.

"In past years, there were pauses in the work of some plants due to prolonged rains, which did not allow them to bring beets to enterprises in time. This year, to date, no such situations have arisen in any region," Yevgeny Ivanov, a leading expert at the Institute for Agricultural Market Studies, said.

As of October 3, 20.20 million mt of root crop, more than half of the total crop, has been harvested in Russia, according to data from the Ministry of Agriculture.

The Russian crop year runs over August to July.
