→ IKAR in Mass Media → #2031 IKAR in Mass MediaRussia- Sugar production may fall over 10% on year27 июля 2018 года Russian sugar production in 2018-19 crop year may fall over 10% from CY 2017-18 levels, but should remain above 6 million mt, said Evgeny Ivanov of the Russian Institute for Agrarian Market Studies (IKAR), according to a report by Russian news agency TASS. Production during the 2017-18 crop year, which began in August and ends in July, reached 6.7 million mt, rising 8.1% above the record set during the 2016-17 crop year, when 6.2 million mt were produced. Demand during the 2017-18 crop year reached 6.1 million mt. Ivanov says the late beet sowing and drought conditions in the southern regions of Russia may depress beet yields, while low global prices have encouraged farmers to sow beets on 5.7% less land area, or 1.13 million hectares during CY 2017-18. Given current conditions and lower projected sugar output in the coming crop year, Ivanov predicted that domestic and export demand for Russian sugar will balance the market by depleting over 250,000 mt of reserves stored at the mills, as well as sugar imports, which currently total about 240,000 mt, according to the report.
