Russia - completes 2017 sugar beet harvest; volume steady to 2016

Russia has completed its 2017 sugar beet crop with 51.2 million mt of sugar beet harvested, which is even with harvest levels in 2016, according to data from Russian crop research agency IKAR. The sugar beet was harvested from 1.174 million hectares, a 7.1% increase from 1.095 million hectares in 2016. Sugar factories processed 40.175 million mt of sugar beet in 2017, a 2.5% increase year on year. Sugar production reached 5.69 million mt, a 9.7% increase year on year. Sugar recovery yields averaged 14.16% during the period, up from 13.24% in 2016, IKAR data showed.
