Russia – IKAR has increased sugar production estimate to 6.1 million tonnes for the 16/17 season

Reuters. Agency IKAR raised the production forecast of white sugar beet in Russia to 6.092 million tonnes in the 2016/2017 marketing year. Previous evaluation of production, published in mid-December, amounted to 5.82 million tonnes compared to 5.2 million tonnes in the previous marketing season. "This is the result of systematic and long-term work of the industry," - said a leading expert Yevgeny Ivanov, noting that the forecast has been adjusted after the new official statements on the harvesting of sugar in the Russian Federation.

Export was estimated at 199 million tonnes, rather than 150 thousand tonnes, a month earlier. Previously, experts and representatives of the sugar-producing companies in Russia declared the beginning of the season 2016/2017 with the active export of white sugar for the first time in many years. According Soyuzrossakhar, the Russian Federation has already exported 110 thousand tonnes of sugar.

Since the beginning of the marketing season in August and November 2016, Russia produced 4.5 million tonnes of sugar (4.04 million tonnes a year earlier). The November production was as high as possible in all these months to Russia - 1.413 million tonnes, analysts report. Factory inventories, according to IKAR, rose to record levels of 1.95 million tonnes (1.76 million tonnes a year earlier) at the end of November.

"With moderate production in August-October (low yield of sugar due to rains in the South at the end of September) and high shipments in August and November, the factory reserves at the end of November amounted to 191,000 tonnes higher than last year, despite production for the season being above 468,000 tonnes ", - said the agency review. Sugar consumption from August 2016 to July 2017 is estimated at 5.834 million tonnes (5.735 million tonnes a year earlier), the import of white sugar at 282,000 tonnes and white sugar reserves at 1.381 million tonnes and raw sugar at zero stocks.
