IKAR in Mass MediaRussia- IKAR raises Russia's sugar output forecast to 5.6 million mt17 мая 2016 года The Institute for Agricultural Market Studies, an agricultural consultancy based in Russia, increased its 2016 beet sugar production forecast for the country to 5.6 million mt, up from 5.4 million mt in February. Russia produced 5.19 million mt of sugar in 2015. Increased sugar beet acreage combined with the anticipation for higher yields due to favorable weather conditions led to the forecast increase, said the consultancy. The IKAR said Russia's sugar beet sowing area could increase 10% on the year to 1.1 million hectares (2.72 million acres) in 2016. Russia's increased beet sugar production poses a risk because production is nearing market capacity, said the consultancy. Overproduction could cause a significant drop in domestic sugar prices, similar to conditions in Moldova and Ukraine, the IKAR said.
